STEWART (My Father’s side)
The search for my father's descendents starts in Northern Ireland where it is believed that Samuel Stewart my ggg grandfather was born circa 1813 at St Andrews (now Ballyhalbert) Ards Peninsula.
This information was obtained from data on the 1841 Scottish Census which gave the birth place of their son Samuel as St Andrews and his death certificate which named his parents as William Stewart and Mary Bell, my gggg grandparents.
I enlisted the help of professional genealogy researchers in Northern Ireland to verify this in Irish records but unfortunately they were unable to do so because of the lack of Irish records for that period.
General Registration did not start in Ireland until 1845 - Protestant Marriages; 1864 - Roman Catholic and all other marriages; Births - 1864 and Deaths - 1864.
With a few exceptions all pre 1901 Census Records were pulped for waste paper during the First World War. Prior to these dates research is dependent on Church Records of baptism, marriage and burial.
No conclusive record was found for Samuel Stewart or the family. However as I have the data from the 1841 Census and the death certificate I have a starting point which goes back to circa 1813.
MY DIRECT LINE HIGHLIGHTED
SAMUEL STEWART [1] was born circa 1813 at St Andrews (now Ballyhalbert) Ards Peninsula Northern Ireland.
He married MARY BELL [2]and they had a son SAMUEL STEWART [3].
SAMUEL STEWART [3]married ELIZABETH McKEAND [4] and whilst still in Ireland they had two sons; James Stewart [5] born 1840 and SAMUEL STEWART [6] born circa 1843. Between 1843 and 1847 they moved to Scotland and lived at Whauphill in the Parish of Kirkinner where they had a daughter Elizabeth Stewart [7]) born in 1847.
SAMUEL STEWART [6] circa 1843 married AGNES McLELLAND [8] and the had nine children; James Stewart [9], ANDREW STEWART [10], Elizabeth McKeand Stewart [11], Samuel Stewart [12], William Stewart [13], Robert Stewart [14], Mary McCulloch Stewart [15], Agnes Stewart [16] and Martha McLelland Stewart [17].
ANDREW STEWART [10] married GRACE JOHNSTONE [30] and they had three children; SAMUEL STEWART [31], Jean Stewart [32] and Robert Andrew Stewart [33].
SAMUEL STEWART [31] married AGNES BARR [46] and they had nine children; Alexander Stewart [47], Samuel Stewart [49], ANDREW STEWART [50] - my father, Mary Barr Stewart [48], Walter Barr Stewart [51], Agnes Barr Stewart [51a](Walter's Twin) , Grace Stewart [51b], Jean Stewart [51c] and Elizabeth McMaster Stewart [51d].
ANDREW STEWART [50] married ROBINA STEWART McKIE [61]and they had two children; my brother and me.
